The tone of this book is set in the very first sentences. If you find this chapter
exciting, you will definitely want to read the rest of the book.
Julia had been placed gently and purposefully on the shrine. Transparent kitchen
wrap immobilized her body, bound her arms and legs, and pressed her naked, teenaged
breasts flat against her chest. Paralyzed by its inescapable strength, the invisible
force bound Julia’s muscles and bones, impeded her panicked breathing, stifled her
unrealized screams, but did not, could not stop her tremors.
I made every attempt to ensure that the reader experienced a sensual kaleidoscope
in every page. My intent is for the reader to feel, smell, taste his or her way
through the reading experience.
He moved silently and quickly as he had done so many times before. A cat. No, a
snake. Swift. Silent. Predatory. He moved through the halls and up the stairs
on practiced feet accustomed to every creak. He slithered from door to door, step
to step. He clung tightly to the walls around every corner, sure to be unheard,
unseen, undetected., He stopped at the door to the bedroom. He could smell her
now. The steam of her shower carried the fragrance of soap that smelled of lavender,
and perfume that reminded him of a blessed mixture of honey and cinnamon.
The anguish of what had just taken place in the house had to be felt by the father
as well.
Mr. Donato leaped out of the house, flying on feet that barely touched the carpet
on their way out of the door. AS soon as his feet touched grass, so did his knees.
The contents of his stomach found their place on the lawn, the manicured look now
marred with foul remains of hot dogs, chips and beer.
I introduce the two police officers that work on this case. They are bread and butter,
day and night; opposite to the extreme, yet one cannot exist without the other.
Lieutenant Justin Drake stood just under six feet tall and weighed in at nearly 300
pounds. His size, coupled with his totally bald look and the forearms full of tattoos
truly intimidated most who met him for the first time. His arms were as large in
circumference as the legs of most adult men. He had more of a relationship with
the gym than he did with any of the very few women in his life. The clang of metal
weights did more for him than the steely cold, reverberating ring of a nagging wife.
His own tools were charisma mixed with fear and intimidation. Effective, but often
crude. Sergeant Danielle Forrest on the other hand, never used intimidation unless
it was a last resort. She relied mainly on charm, smiles, unyielding dedication
and total professionalism.
The murderer does not stop with one young woman and her mother. He is quite the
lunatic.
Trinity sat inside the pink plastic car seat surrounded by a clear plastic window.
She bawled within that now air proof package that would soon be depleted of oxygen.
Baby Trinity sat in her plastic-wrapped execution chair and screamed for her mother,
loudly at first, then more quietly. As time passed, her mouth began to hang widely
opened. The baby was dying as surely as a drying fish. Mrs. Thornburg could do
nothing except watch, sob, and pray.
Double Sided is replete with twists and turns, mystery, suspense, relationships,
love and hate. It is a ride in a sensual roller coaster through the mind of a madman.
You will remember this novel for a long time to come.
